Conversion Rate

The percentage of visitors or clicks that complete a desired action.

What it means

Conversion rate is the percentage of clicks on an affiliate's link that result in a completed action — a purchase, a signup, or whatever counts as a conversion in your program. It's calculated as:

Conversion Rate = (Conversions ÷ Clicks) × 100

If an affiliate sends 500 clicks to your site and 25 of them result in a sale, that's a 5% conversion rate.

Why it matters

Clicks alone don't tell you much — an affiliate with huge traffic but a low conversion rate may be sending the wrong audience, or traffic that isn't genuinely interested. Conversion rate is what tells you whether that traffic actually turns into customers. It's one of the clearest signals for:

  • Spotting your best affiliates. High-converting affiliates are often more valuable than high-volume ones, even if their total numbers look smaller.
  • Diagnosing the funnel, not just the affiliate. A sitewide drop in conversion rate across affiliates usually points to a landing page or offer problem, not a partner problem.
  • Catching fraud early. Rates that are unusually high (bot traffic converting suspiciously well) or unusually low (link spam with no real audience) are both worth a second look.

Conversion rate varies a lot by industry, price point, and offer type, so there's no single "good" benchmark to chase — what matters more is tracking your own rate over time and comparing affiliates against each other under the same conditions.
