Today I’m going to take you through how I use LeadDyno for marketing. Using the best affiliate marketing software and also managing things like our online AdWords spend, banner ads and so on.
So, I’ll take you through it. I’ll go about 15 or 20 minutes running time here and then I’m happy to questions either as we go or throughout. So, you can type those into the questions panel in your GoToWebinar screen and I’ll handle those again as I can on the fly or as we go.
And then I am recording this. So, we will have a recording of the guide of the best affiliate marketing software posted on the Web and that should be available this afternoon. So, you’re welcome to reply to any of the emails that you got from me regarding this webinar. That will go back to me and then I’ll ping you back with the recording. Otherwise, it will be posted on our blog shortly.
Let’s Get Started With The Best Affiliate Marketing Software Demo
Here is my affiliate home page. So if you’ve already signed up with us you’re going to have this available to you. It’s going to be yourdomain.leaddyno.com. That’s where you’re going to find it. And then this is something that you can brand. Basically, this is a link that you give people when they say…
“Hey, I’m interested in joining your affiliate program”. Or you can post this link to your site, link it out to your affiliate program, so sign up here.
So, a pretty quick little sign-up. You can adjust the copy in the intro here and I will show you how to do that in a minute. But basically, people can sign up on the left. And then you get registered as an affiliate. Or if they come in on the right and sign in, this will take them into their Affiliate Dashboard. I’m going to show you that. This is sort of the quickest way to get people up and running with the program.
Let me hop back
I’m now back in my little LeadDyno admin console here. So where you can find where your domain is listed, this is going to be under “Settings”. A little more on settings in general account info and then your Affiliate Home Page has listed here. So again, this is going to be based on the domain that you signed up with us, with. You can also change that down below here under the “General Settings”.
This is going to be the URL of your main site. If you have more than one site, you’re going want to pick your most popular site. You’re welcome to do multiple accounts as well. So pick, you know if you’re doing, multiple accounts using the same LeadDyno account, just pick your main site and then that’s going to be where you can send people to do the Affiliate Home Page there.
You can also ramp up people through the admin screen here under “Create A New Affiliate.” So, as you talk to people, you can also just set them up. So, I’ll do this with our higher end resellers. I’ll just create their account for them. I’ll put them in the reseller tier. I split between Affiliates and Resellers.
Affiliates and Resellers
Our affiliates are people who are our current customers, our current prospects, users of our products.
For our affiliates for this given product, we give them a hundred for each referral and then we do delay that by a few months to make sure that we have the cash in hand. It’s a subscription product; make sure we have the cash-in-hand and that there were no refunds before we pay out the affiliate.
For our resellers, we pay them a 30% recurring commission and the reason we split that up is for someone who is just kind of referring their friends, a hundred bucks is pretty enticing.
For our resellers who actually resell us and other products for a living, they prefer to have that recurring commission and they like to build on that. So that’s kind of how it’s split up between our affiliates and our resellers.
So these are kind of the two ways you can get people up and on their way. Literally, as soon as you get our code installed on your site you can start ramping up your affiliates like this.
So just backing up half a step
Because I did jump into the affiliate sign up, so I’m going to assume that you’re able to get our code installed okay. If you do need help, every site is a little different, so I’m not going to cover too many specifics here on that.
The easiest thing to do is just after you sign up, just ping us in the live chat in the lower left and then we can get you set up with that on the fly.
But basically, when you get the code installed you, are going to then, have access to all of the clicks, leads, and purchases that come through your site. And this is not only going to be limited, to affiliate traffic, but we’re also going to have the lead source for everyone that comes to your site.
So, for example, if I look at my latest purchases here and I see, okay, well who purchases this product last and then where did they come from? We’ve got a mix of people. So this was a blog post. This is an organic blog post. Here this is someone who found us via this article on the Web. And then here this is an example where this is the customer and then this is the source. So, this is a perfect example of what we like to see. This is someone referring someone in their office, Steve will get a $100 commission from us and now we’ve got Jane as a customer here for a long time.
It’s What LeadDyno Does
So that’s sort of what LeadDyno is doing is we’re being sold because we’re actually on your site. We actually are taking the source of every click for you. We’re not just limited to being able to track the affiliate stuff. And then I’m going to show you how you can use this information to track pay-per-click things. We’ll do that at the end of the session, here.
Okay, so back to the affiliate side. One more thing I’m going to show you in terms of how to get people on to the program is, we also have an affiliate invitation form that you can embed on your site.
And then this is going to be under the “Tools” menu on the lower left. So this is where you can grab some code. If you’d like to put this form on your site, you can do that too, so a few ways that you’re going to add the affiliates on there.
Now, once you get this going what I recommend doing, one of the first things you should do is we’ve got some automated emails that can go out to your affiliates and I highly recommend turning these guys on.
The first option here is to have an email go out to an affiliate when they sign up for your program. So that’s this one, “On Affiliate Sign up” and pretty easy, just kind of come in and you can edit the email.
I write from, me. So if someone replies with a question, it’s going to come to me and not one of those stupid “No reply” things. You can put whatever email address you’d like if it’s for your sales team or your affiliate manager or yourself.
The Affiliate Dashboard
For the subject line, that’s going to be the subject line of the email and then you can write the email here. And then a couple of key things here, this is going to be the link to their unique referral link and then this is going to be the link to their Affiliate Dashboard.
So once it’s kind of good with the automation side, they can sign up online. And then they get this email kicked right back to them. Basically, having all of the information that they need to get going, okay.
Let’s take a look and show what their Affiliate Dashboard looks like. So let me go to one of our affiliates here, I’ll go to Lori’s account. Lori is a reseller of ours. She’s in that higher tier that I mentioned. So she gets a 30% recurring commission.
What I did for Lori is I’ve given her a custom affiliate link. So, this is sort of like a Vanity link or URL because this is the name of her company at the end here. Where you can do this is when you’re creating the affiliate or after you’ve created them and you edit the affiliate, you can give them an affiliate code and this code here then is what’s going to go at the end in the link.
BigCommerce
Also for our Shopify, for our big commerce users who have discount codes, this also functions as the discount code for this affiliate. So a customer, they refer, a client of theirs comes in, they use RayNaCorp as a discount code. Lori is going to get credit for it even if they didn’t come directly from her link. So, that’s another way to close the loop there on those referrals.
And then she’s also got a link here to her Affiliate Dashboard and I’ll open this for you. So remember on the main screen here where I said, have an account, you can sign in using your email and password. Or actually, an easier way to do it is this link here. Lori just clicks this, this authenticates her, clicks her in and now she’s got everything available to her.
So now let’s spend some time going through this because this is the affiliate, this is where their whole LeadDyno experience is. This is where they go for tools to be able to recommend your products. This is where all that one-click stuff is.
So again, here’s her affiliate code. Here is Lori’s referral link. So she can copy this link and use it wherever she’d like. She can create new versions of this link too. So that’s going to be under the SubID/Channels.
A Popular Question
If you’ve got multiple product pages on your domain or you have different sites, the link will work. As long as you copy/paste it from the hash portion on. And an easy way for someone like Lori to do that is she just puts in the URL. This can be any URL on any of your sites and then she gives it a name. Then what we do is we spit out one of these links for her. So that would be the link specifically to that page.
So we’ve got the main affiliate link and then we’ve also got these SubIDs and then she’s also able to track who came from each link and can see specifically the visits, the leads and the purchases.
And when we say visits, leads, and purchases, a visit would be someone who clicks on your site. A lead would be someone who you’ve got their email address. So that could be from an email newsletter or that could be during the purchase event as well. So the purchases are going to be one that you either subscribe to your service or when they buy from you.
Tracking Progress
Okay. So, one of the cool things is that Lori can track her progress in real time. This is very useful, as you know; affiliate marketing traditionally is kind of a black box. It kind of has a little bit of a bad reputation just because it’s kind of been historically a little sketchy, where if you were promoting someone else’s product you may not have access to see how you were doing and there’s always been kind of that trust issue.
With this, we kind of get ahead of that and with this transparency, helps the affiliate feel a lot better about things because what they can do is they can do a test click and they can see what’s going to show up here. So all their progress is reflected in real time, so as they send a new visitor to your website, they give you a new lead and as they send you a new customer, they’re going to be able to see all that literally in real time here.
And then they’re also going to be able to see their payment, so their commissions that are due, their upcoming and paid. So you can see Lori has done quite well so far in our early time with us. She’s made $156 to date with some more commissions coming up and such.
Social Sharing Feature
So she also has the ability to share and she does take advantage of this. So, using the one-click social sharing features that we’ve got here so she can email up to 10 of her clients at one time. That’s going to be this one here. So I just clicks the email link, enters the friend’s email addresses, can update this email if she would like but I’ve already got some pre-written copy in for our affiliates and I’ll show you where I update this and where you can do the same in terms of updating this copy for your affiliates.
But it’s really good to get these guys started so they don’t really have to think too much about it. So as an affiliate, they can just kind of come in and they can say, “Okay, I want to share this on Twitter.” Post this to Twitter, it logs them in automatically and then we’ve got that copy.
The affiliate link is in everything
So that’s what LeadDyno is doing, automatically is it’s putting their affiliate hash, at the end of the link. All you need to do is you just put in the target URL that you want these things to go to. And then the affiliate link is going to be embedded at the end. So it’s the same on Facebook here.
Okay, backing out a half step, we also have some marketing materials. So she’s got some banners to put on her site. Again, these all link, these all have her affiliate links. All she needs to do is cut the HTML and then I’ll show you where you can upload your banners and all of these materials. In fact, let’s do that now.
So this is where the configuration is both for the Affiliate Dashboard and the website. So as for the affiliate website that I showed you earlier, that was branded, here’re where you can do that. That’s under “Configure Affiliate Website,” that’s where you’re going to upload the logo, get your colors in and you can also iFrame it into your site if you’d like. If you don’t want to do it, your domain, that will be LeadDyno.com, you can put it on your site. You can also do some CSS as well.
The dashboard is where you’re going to put in the instructions. So that’s going to be this one here. So this is where you can customize the instructions.
Updates
And then the “Content Library” right here is where you can update things like that email I showed you, the Facebook post. You can do additional Facebook posts. So what that’s going to look like, is that’s going to be like this guy here.
So for a Facebook post, you just edit this and then you basically put in the URL here and then you can also put in an alternate destination, your URL if you’d like to send it somewhere else.
And for banners, you’re just going to upload those. So, you’re just going to go to the upper right here, “Add Content,” “Add a Banner” or “Blog Content” and then you’re either going to be able to either upload the image that you’ve got or you can point to it somewhere on the Web.
Let’s go back
So we did talk about that first “Automated Affiliate Email” but I want to show you another example here. So you can also do some weekly status emails. I recommend doing them all, it’s really good. Yeah, I’ve never had an affiliate complain that we’ve communicated with them too much. They really like staying in the loop. And when they’re making money, they’re really excited even when they’re sending us leads that we’ve given them, give them credit for, they like that.
So we’ve got two at the end there that you can send them an automatic email every time they send you a new lead and then every time they send you a new purchase and they have an affiliate commission. And then that’s going to kind of look like this, so this will say, ‘So here’s an example email. “Thanks for referring your colleague” and LeadDyno sends this out on your behalf,’ and then what I do has I let them know, “Okay, our support team, we’ve got it from here. By the way, here’s a link to your Affiliate Dashboard again, so this is where you can get everything you need.”
I’ve got an example of a commission email buried here
So that’s going to be this one. This is what ours, look like. So, it says, “You’ve got a new Affiliate Commission. They’ve signed up. We’ve got your commission for and then you can view your current commissions.
And of course, who doesn’t want to view their current commissions?
They’ve got money and they want to come in and they want to view these here.
Okay, when it’s time to pay out your affiliates, you can do that under “Affiliate Program” and then you can review the payments. So LeadDyno is calculating these payments as you go. Oh, I’m sorry, it’s actually under “Pay Affiliate Commissions.”
LeadDyno is going to calculate these commissions as you go. We do require one-click approval from you before we pay somebody out, so we don’t just spit out money automatically.
The easiest way to do it is with our PayPal integration and we’ve got a one-click that goes out to PayPal. So you can just kind of click PayPal and then that will log you in and you can send that payment out.
If you’re paying by check you can also do a manual payment here and then we also support Dwolla and Coinbase as well as alternate forms of payment. So this is where you’re going to pay out your affiliate commissions from this screen.
And then, the question about affiliate commissions. “How often do you recommend paying out your affiliates?”
In our case…
I pay out our affiliates once a month and I will do it for people who are over $50 due. So for example, say at the end of this month, so I’m going to go in, I’m going to pay out Jeff here for his commission. I won’t pay out the other guys. There’s not quite enough money. So I’ll just leave that in the system and then we’ll take a look next month and then when they kick over the $50 threshold, that’s when I’ll pay them out.
So this is up to you. I kind of have this understanding with our affiliates and that’s pretty standard in the industry. Amazon waits for $50 or $100 before they pay out. So I would say that $50 or $100 threshold is a good one and once a month is good.
I know some affiliate programs they only pay once a quarter. I like to pay, as often as I can. It’s really easy with LeadDyno. So there’s not a lot of overhead or effort on my side and, you know you talk about keeping your affiliates motivated. If you kick them up a PayPal payment every month, they’re going to be thinking of you pretty much throughout.
A question back to the social content
“Can you display multiple Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, samples for affiliates together?”
Yeah. So where you can set those up so we’ve got, on the homepage, this is sort of the core, so these are your main social shares here. But you can add others. You can either have them on the “Marketing Materials” tab.
So if I go back to our “Affiliate Content” in the “Content Library, I can add an additional Facebook post here and then this is going to be displayed on the marketing tab. So that’s where you can add that stuff.
Or, and this is actually a good lead-in because this is the last thing I wanted to show you on the “Newsletter” side. You can also add them to your “Affiliate Newsletters”. And that’s what I do is when I send out a newsletter to our affiliates, I’ve also got these custom Tweets and Facebook posts, so I’ll do something new for each newsletter just to keep it fresh for them.
And then the “Affiliate Newsletter” is something that you can send out. These are under “Affiliate Content” and “Affiliate Newsletters” is where you can configure these guys.
So if I want to create a new affiliate newsletter, I do this here. It’s really pretty easy to set up. It’s just sort of a WYSIWYG editor, so what you see is what you get and you can type in, create your email and then it sends it out to your affiliates.
Another Example
Late last month, I was in Chicago at a tradeshow and I sent this quick note out to our affiliates. I said, “Hey, come by. I’m at Booth 413. By the way, here’s the link to your dashboard. You should use the email invite-feature and you can get in there.”
I was kind of pressed for time, but I could have included some of those one-click things out to Facebook or Twitter, so just specific, for that newsletter. So you can do that just for those guys.
And then if it’s a recurring payment through Stripe, you still have to pay manual. I assume if you’re doing a recurring subscription through Stripe. So yeah, we don’t pay out through Stripe. You would need to do a one-click payment to approve that.
And we do use Stripe, actually for LeadDyno, so yeah, I’m familiar with it and we do have that, integration with Stripe, which you may have already found. So it’s under “Manage Integrations” and under “E-Commerce Services.”
I’m sorry, we got Stripe under “Payment Services”.
Yeah, so it’s a one-click that will connect you to Stripe. So this is where we track the purchases and for Stripe, we do grab each instance of your recurring subscription. So that will come in and then based on your commission plan, then we’ll apply either so you could do like a percentage of each one or if you’re a doing a one-time, either work.
And then that’s going to accrue under “Pay Affiliate Commissions” but yeah, we’re not going to take a payment back out through Stripe. We’re still going to require you to come in and do the one-click and then that’s going to go back out and you know, again I think PayPal is probably the easiest for that.
Tracking Campaigns
Cool. And with that, let’s talk about “Tracking Campaigns” and then we will take questions.
“Tracking Campaigns,” as I alluded to earlier, this is a way for you to track Google AdWords if you’d like to do that with us as well. The advantage with us is if you’re set up with us through something like Stripe. Or this product here that I’m showing, you’re set up through Recurly or if you’re using a Shopify or Bigcommerce. The advantage of using LeadDyno for your conversion tracking versus just AdWords is that we’re already tied in with your E-Commerce provider.
We can tell you exactly how you’re doing from a link to the sale. Whereas, as you know, AdWords, Google Analytics, you sort of put a pixel somewhere or some code somewhere and it will show some when we hit that page. I mean, that’s better than nothing for sure, but it doesn’t give you the full visibility in your sales funnel.
AdWord Groups
So what I do for each AdWord group that we run or if we do banner ads online, if we do a deal with someone in email sponsorship, I always do a specific link from LeadDyno. So again this is basically the same thing as an affiliate link. We’re just splitting it out for you. So you can put on your marketing manager hat and you can look at it from a different sort of perspective here because you’re not paying these based on a commission usually, you’re paying money up front for traffic, so you want to see how that’s doing, for you.
So this is going to be under “Tracking campaigns” and these are a couple of examples here, so you’ve got a tracking link. This is going to be the target link that you put in your Google ad.
And for example, this is an ad that we spent a lot of money on. So I probably spent over a $1,000, so I was paying 3, $4 a click here. You see we got 326 clicks and only seven leads and one purchase and that purchase cancels, so that was disastrous.
I See Things Clearly Now
But the good thing about having this running is that I was able to see that. Otherwise, I really wouldn’t have had the visibility into that. Even seeing the seven leads that’s something that might not have been able to work out for us. But seeing how the leads just didn’t end up converting, ended up telling me that this ad group needed to just kill out. Which is good because then I could save the money there and deploy it somewhere else.
Versus this example where we only got 14 clicks and again this is something that I paid close to $1000 for, so it was an email sponsorship and what I gave the publisher was this link to send to our site, so instead of just linking to our site, the campaign link, it’s only 14 clicks so that’s paying like $70 a click, which again on paper, that would have looked terrible but then we got nine leads from it and then four purchases and three long-time customers.
So that was actually a very good campaign for us and never would have known it just by doing click tracking. Or even the lead tracking would have been kind of sketchy but seeing that it was very high-quality and we got a lot of bang for our buck in terms of the click especially, it was really instructive.
So I encourage you that after you get your affiliate program set up, make use of our “Tracking Campaigns.” I mean, anytime you buy anything online just put this link there and that will show you how the campaign is doing.
Question Time
All right. So with that, I’ll give you a minute for you to type in questions.
So thanks for the questions so far and if you’ve got more, you can go ahead and type those into the GoToWebinar panel and we’ll just kind of hang out and go through whatever you’d like to see.
Okay. “Can you show me how to set up the following sequence? I haven’t used that yet.”
Yeah. So where the follow-up sequence is these are actually the other marketing activities in the lead follow-up emails. I’ll put my LeadDyno’s account here.
So if you’ve signed up with us so far, which you probably have if you’re in this session now, you’ve probably gotten this email since you signed up. It came from Adam Jacobs, who is our Customer Support Manager. I don’t mean to make you sad, but Adam didn’t actually send the email. It was part of our follow-up sequence.
If you’re familiar with, you know, products like Infusionsoft or MailChimp has this capability now, I think AWeber does in terms of follow-up email. These are emails that go out to you automatically after you sign up. So you can send these out to your new leads. This is what we do. The email address is entered as soon as it is received.
The initial one here sort of gets you going with the product and then we do a sequence over a 14-day period. There is a 14-day free trial, where you receive 5 emails over the course of 15 days.
And then you can do these on different triggers as well. This is after a new lead registration, so you can also do it after a new purchase.
Even After Cancellation
You can also do it after a cancellation or a refund and after the cancellations, these have actually been some of our most successful emails because we send people an email and say, you know, “We’d love to hear why our product didn’t work out for you. Just let us know if you need some more time on the free trial or such to come back…”
And that’s been very useful because we do get a lot of replies to these and we wouldn’t be disciplined enough to send them ourselves if we were doing it manually. I could say that with pretty good confidence. So definitely check out the lead follow-up sequences as you get LeadDyno going.
Okay. “Is it easy to set up Bespoke affiliate packages, give one affiliate 20% monthly commission and another super-affiliate 30?”
Yeah. That’s really easy. In fact, let me show you what I’ve got going here.
So I’ve got a couple of commission plans. Actually, you know what? I’ll show you a LeadDyno’s because that’s actually exactly what we do.
Okay, so under my commission plans, I’ve got a few here. Our default one we pay 30%, so that’s here. It’s pretty easy to set up. You’re just saying, “We’re paying for a purchase, it’s a percentage of, sale, it’s 30%.” And there you go.
And then we also do to your point, we have a 20% plan. That’s this one here. That’s 20%, so it applies to resellers for 20%.
So when I set somebody up, here’s how I do that…
I put in their email address and then I say, “Okay, well, what affiliate type are they?” So your super-affiliate can be 30 or 20, so this where you can split that up.
Now you’re going to have a default plan that when people sign up, they’re going to go under your default plan. So you want to choose what your default plan is.
For our other example here, Chrometa, when people come in, this is going to be connected to the affiliate type. So my default affiliate type is the affiliate level. This is the $100 one-time level. Then my sort of super affiliate or Reseller level. I call these the 30% recurring guys.
So if somebody signs up through our main screen here. The main affiliate website. And I do have Reseller’s sign up through here. I just come in and I bump them up because mostly I’m talking to these guys anyway. So I’ll send them an email. I’ll say, “Got you signed up and I also got you bumped up to 30%”. And that might be one, the Vanity URL gets included with their company name.
“Can you show me how to set up LeadDyno with Shopify?”
Yes. You bet. Let’s go back to the integrations. This is under “Settings”. It is going to be under “Manage Integrations”. This one is going to be under “E-Commerce”.
And then basically put in your Shopify URL; click “Connect to Shop”. I showed you Stripe earlier. Stripe would connect the purchases. But you’re still going to want to put our code on your site. With Shopify, this is all you need to do. It literally is just a one-click. You just put in the URL of your Shopify store, connected to the shop and that’s it.
Live Chat
So Shopify is really easy to get up and running. But again, if you have questions with any of these setups. “Live Chat” is usually the easiest way to find us. Email is also fine. A phone call is fine as well.
You can find our contact info. That’s going to be on our website here. Let me kind of take you through the site.
So okay, yes, so watch Adam, Adam is on right now so he kind of pops up so you can get help with him.
Our setup instructions are going to be here. This is a little bit techier, so you want to pass this to your developer.
If you need help again, you can find us on “Chat”. Our contact info is going to be on the upper right. So if you need to find us off of chat for whatever reason, you can find us here.
So if you do need help getting LeadDyno setup on your site, please do contact us. Otherwise, you’re welcome to get going whenever you’re ready.
If you’re not already, so you got the 14-day free trial up top. And again, if you have questions, you can reply to any of the emails that you got from me. If you’ve got specific questions, I’m happy to circle back with you one-on-one.
So just reply to any of those emails or Brett, so it’s B-R-E-T-T, [email protected], is my email, so that’s where you can find me.
Thank you for joining me as I guided you through the best affiliate marketing software. I hope that we hear from you soon.
Thank you and have a good day.
